quarex@hotmail.comSup. I spend my free time having adventures and misadventures with my totally awesome girlfriend, reading as many academically-based books as possible, playing all the hippest new CRPGs and FPSs, and working on sketch comedy projects with my homiez (well, not so much now that I moved, but our director killed our dreams long before I moved anyway). Speaking of our sketch comedy projects, I demand for you to visit The Jumpmen's home page, and download episodes 1 and 2. Also please download episodes 3 through 38 once we finish those. Because this will happen.
Got me one o' them master's de-grees in Cri-mi-nyle Justice from the Illinois State University to go with my bachelor's in ENGLISH LITERATURE!! from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. I am starting a doctorate in Political Science at the University of Delaware in Fall 2008 to continue my research on identification systems, privacy, surveillance, American government, international relations, communitarianism, and you.
Most people already know all of the preceding, and the following, but I might as well humor the few people who do not:
I am an only child, as obviously parents can only produce such eldritch horrors once before the nightmarish reality of inadvertently creating another hits home. Additionally, due both to my parents' fantastic lives, including my dad's occasional grants to go lecture on community development in Southeast Asia, I have lived in a few particularly interesting places (India, South Korea, Thailand), spent a year living and going to "university" in England, and visited ~25 other random countries! Wow, am I ever a spoiled jerk!
While I barely appreciated much of the travel (especially to non-English speaking countries) at the time, I can honestly look back on those trips now and say that they contributed hugely to my positive outlook on life. Say what you might about your "shitty" life in the United States, your life is a thousand times better than the life of the average person in most parts of the world. I feel you should be thankful for that. For another angle on positivity, I will poorly paraphrase Iron Maiden: "Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years; realize you're living in the golden years."
And now, it is time for me to randomly list the lyrics to my lyrically favorite song. This song will surely place me in the echelon of upper-middle-class Western assholes whose idea of the good life seems out of touch with 99% of the world's populace, but at least I am cognizant of this fact. Tony Bennett's rendition of "Live For Life:"
Come with me my love and seize this day and live it
Live it fully, live it fast
Never thinking once about tomorrow
'Till tomorrow's been and gone and passed
We'll pour the wine, and fill the cup of joy,
And drink a drink as if it were the last
Live, just live for life
In Paris today and Amsterdam tomorrow
Sixty minutes through the skies
Fly with me to see the setting summer sun
And stay with me to see it rise
And say to those who say to live this way is mad,
That mad we'd rather be than wise
Live, just live for life
If you let me, I will lead you
Through the mystery and wonder
Of a world you've never known before
Share the splendors to be shared
Magic places to explore
Dare the dangers to be dared
Life is all of this and more
This and more
Yesterday's a memory gone for good forever
While tomorrow is a guess
What is real is what is here and now
The here and now is all that we possess
So take my hand and we will take the moment,
If for just the moment's happiness
Live, just live for life
